CloneticsTM 大鼠小脑颗粒细胞是从成年 Sprague Dawley 大鼠出生后第 8 天的小脑皮质中分离出来的。小脑颗粒细胞利用谷氨酸作为其神经递质，因此是小脑皮质内唯一的兴奋性神经元。
所有其他神经元细胞类型都使用 GABA 作为神经递质。 颗粒细胞出现在小脑皮层神经元发育的后期，是哺乳动物大脑中最丰富的单一神经元类型。 根据 GABA 免疫反应性评估，这些是高度同质的颗粒细胞群，含有少于 5% 的 GABA 能神经元。
