Some of the major challenges for researchers are the acquisition and availability of high-quality islets. Lonza‘s Fresh Human Pancreatic Islets (Islets of Langerhans) will now provide researchers with easy access to islets to support their research. These islets are made-to-order. Islets are supplied as IEQ (islet equivalents) and shipped in a Wilson Wolf gas permeable flask to maintain optimal viability. Each batch is isolated from normal human donors and tested negative for HIV-1, HBV and HCV. Each batch is tested for quantity, viability, purity and bacterial sterility. The product is guaranteed to meet minimum specifications indicated by the certificate of analysis. Pancreatic islet culture medium is provided with each shipment.

Endothelial cells are the primary barrier cells that line blood vessels and sinusoids of the liver. Human Liver-derived Endothelial Cells (HLECs) are isolated and enriched from liver tissue, then cryopreserved for use in a wide range of research models.
HLECs are characterized for markers of endothelial cells, including CD31, vWF, and LYVE-1 as shown by flow cytometry and maintain appropriate endothelial morphology over limited serial passaging. Human liver-derived endothelial cells are derived from whole livers leading to a mixed population of vascular endothelial cells and sinusoidal endothelial cells.
The recommended medium for HLECs is EGMTM 2 which is optimized for endothelial cell health and growth.

Kupffer cells are the resident macrophages in the liver and are part of the first line of defense against bacteria and toxins in the gut. Kupffer cells exhibit typical macrophage morphology and can be activated to produce inflammatory cytokines, growth factors and reactive oxygen species.
In vivo, prolonged activation of Kupffers are associated with many diseases of the liver including Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), Non Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis (NASH), and liver damage associated with certain bioactivated chemicals.
Human Cryopreserved Kupffer cells are isolated and enriched from dissociated human liver tissue and then cryopreserved as passage 0. Characterization of isolated Kupffer cells includes assessing morphology in plated format and evaluating functional responses to LPS stimulation.

The aortic valve is a valve in the human heart between the left ventricle and the aorta. The valve undergoes exceptional forces due to blood flow during each cardiac cycle. The two primary cell types in the aortic valve are the aortic valve endothelial cells (HAoVEC) which provide the barrier function as the valve opens and closes and the valvular interstitial Cells (hVIC) which provide the structural integrity of the valve.
Lonza’s Human Valvular Interstitial Cells (hVIC) are provided as a made to order product by Lonza’s CellBio Services custom cell isolation team.
Cryopreserved Human Valvular Interstitial Cells (hVIC) are tested for expression levels of Factor VIII and Alpha Smooth Muscle Actin, viability, plating efficiency, and doubling time. All cells test negative for mycoplasma, bacteria, yeast, and fungi. HIV-1, hepatitis B and hepatitis C are not detected for all donors and/or cell lots. A Certificate of Analysis is provided for each cell lot purchased.
This product can be provided on its own or as a matched set with Human Aortic Valve Endothelial Cells (HAoVEC; part number 00225975). This product is also customizable to allow for larger batch sizes, additional testing specifications, or specific donor requirements.

The total volume and concentration of the supplied cells will vary. Based on this count, the product is filled to deliver not less than 5.0 billion cells upon thaw.
Leukopaks typically contain up to 50% T cells, 20% monocytes, 10% B cells, and 10% NK cells, 3% granulocytes, and 3 % hematocrit. Actual percentages will vary from donor to donor.
Cyropreserved leukopaks are frozen quickly after collection using a controlled rate method to maximize viability.

Endothelial cells are the primary barrier cells that line blood vessels and sinusoids of the liver. Human Liver-derived Endothelial Cells (HLECs) are isolated and enriched from liver tissue, then cryopreserved for use in a wide range of research models. A unique subtype of LECs, liver sinusoidal endothelial cells, are defined as a subset of cells found at the interface between the liver sinusoids and hepatocytes.
HLECs derived from whole livers lead to a mixed population of vascular endothelial cells and sinusoidal endothelial cells. HLECs characterized for markers of endothelial cells, including CD31 and vWF maintain appropriate endothelial morphology over limited serial passaging. Measurement of uptake of acetylated LDL to indicate percentage of the sinusoidal endothelial cell population. The recommended medium for HLECs is EGMTM 2 which is optimized for endothelial cell health and growth.

Kupffer cells are the resident macrophages in the liver and are part of the first line of defense against bacteria and toxins in the gut. Kupffer cells exhibit typical macrophage morphology and can be activated to produce inflammatory cytokines, growth factors and reactive oxygen species.
In vivo, prolonged activation of Kupffer cells are associated with many diseases of the liver including Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), Non Alcoholic Steato Hepatitis (NASH), and liver damage associated with certain bioactivated chemicals. Human Cryopreserved Kupffer cells are isolated and enriched from dissociated human liver tissue and then cryopreserved as passage 0. Characterization of isolated Kupffer cells includes assessing morphology in plated format and evaluating functional responses to LPS stimulation.
